Thanksgiving 2011 Utah

Sherri's and Julie’s family with us, Thanksgiving 2011, great looking family if I do say so myself.

Braden had been in a bike accident, so we got to check on him. Thankfully he would mend. When to Parker’s kindergarten class and read them a story.

Grandma and Grandpa with Parker, he has a wonderful teacher and classmates.

We drove Halle’s carpool going to school, the kids kept us laughing the whole way to school. Then we pick up Halle after school.

Fun Saturday in Rexburg

We went to the Rexburg Shooting Range

We shot the Rifle Glenn is putting in the bullets

The targets were 50 yards away

Now its my turn ( I have never shot a
gun before).

I have the target in my sight

The rifle was easy to shoot.

We were shooting at the targets on the left.

We didn’t bring targets but found some
paper to use. Glenn got very near the bulls
eye.

I hit the paper 4 times out of 10 but
way off the bulls eye.

Now for the pistol, we are shooting
10 yards from the target.

The pistol was very heavy and had
quite a bounce when shooting.
It was fun and I want to go again.

Cindi and Jayden came for a few days.

We didn't think we would get to see Jayden this year because of our mission, but Cindi surprised us by bringing him with her.

He played the piano for us.

Mary and her children came (Mary and Cindi were roommates in college).

We loved getting to know her sweet kiddos.

A couple offered to take our picture, he had worked at the Inn 40 years ago as a grounds worker.

We took the Highway to the Sun, it was narrow, straight up and of course road work too but it was beautiful!

We found we really like the KOA camp grounds. We really enjoyed having our trailer but was an expensive trip with gas prices so high and the Durango didn't get good mileage pulling a trailer. But all in all a fun trip.

The house Glenn grew up in. Meet the family that just bought the house and are fixing it up. The last owner sure let it get in bad shape. Glad a nice family lives there.

Trip to Arizona and Texas – January 2011

Went to Maricopa, Arizona to visit Joyce and Michael. They have a beautiful home there, we had a wonderful time with them. It was in the 30’s. (the cold seem to follow us)

They took us to Sprinkles of Beverly Hills for delicious cupcakes.

So many delicious looking cupcakes, we chose lemon and red velvet.

We had to go shopping!

We went to Casa Grande National Monument to see dwelling that were built many years ago.

This is one of the dwellings, it was interesting to hear how it was built.

The cactus were beautiful

and very large.

There were beautiful orange and grapefruit trees growing on the temple grounds.

We went to the mall in Chandler, Az but everyone was outside, the mall had closed because of a shooting in the parking lot. They did catch the person but the mall was close all day. (no one was injured)

Played a couple games of scrabble.

Joyce won the first game and Michael won the second.

Hadn’t played scrabble in years, it was lots of fun.

On our way to Odessa, Texas we kept seeing signs for THE THING, so of course we had to stop and see what it was!

We stopped in Odessa, Texas to visit my niece and her family. Yolanda, Dan, Drew and Zach Rankin

We went to English, Texas to visit Cecil and Keaton while Kristi and Heidi both had to go out of town and yes that is snow in Texas!

Keaton loved it!

The snow would not hold together enough to build a snowman, they creatively decide to make it a snow deer.

They even had a game of soccer in the snow.

Penny kept standing up to the table and looking, we couldn’t figure out what she was doing

Until she jumped on the table and grabbed her snowman toy that Keaton had been playing with. And off she ran with the toy.

Misty, Larry, Travis, Tanner and Bayleigh came by, we went to dinner at a delicious Mexican restaurant and played Wii bowling, which Misty won.

Glenn has wanted a travel trailer for a long time, finally he got it.

We are very excited to start using it, to visit as many temples as we can and of course to

visit our family. It is small but just right for us.

It has a small slide for the couch area.
It is a 19 foot trailer

The weather finally got warm so we decided we needed a pool to hold everyone.

Thanksgiving Week in Texas

We had a great week in Texas, the weather was great and of course spending time with everyone was wonderful.

Kristi cooked some wonderful meals. We had fried turkey on Thanksgiving, I loved it.
We also went to the best mexican resturant in Clarksville, actually we liked it so much we had to go again before we left.

We started off Friday morning with a manicure & pedicure

Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is my Mom's birthday. There are so many wonderful things to say about her I'm having a hard time knowing where to start! I love my mother because of who she is and all that she has taught me. She is an amazing woman. When ever I need something she is there to provide it from a cooked meal, to taking care of you when you are sick, to cleaning the house before you come to visit, to calling to check on you, to staying up late and talking to you, etc.
My mom is one of the most caring and loving people I have ever met. She is always concerned about others and their comfort and their well being. Many times I have called crying and she cried with me, or called with great news and she rejoiced with me. She has always supported me in all that I have chosen to do, giving me her full support. From college, to mission, to career choices to chosing the man I'm going to marry, my mother has always been there cheering me on every step of the way. Having grown up and recognized more of what is out there in this world, I have learned that I am one of the luckiest girls on earth. I am lucky because I have one of the best mothers on earth. That is truly no understatement. I love being around her, because when I am, that is when I truly feel like I am home.

Below are a few pictures of good times I've had with my mom. Enjoy!

Mom found a great way to entertain us on one of my trips to Idaho. We went to go explore a waterfall in the area. Little did we know this trip would turn into a real adventure. We got caught in a Hail storm to beat all hail storms. Literally hail the size of golf balls and it was falling with brute force. The hail left bruises on our backs and cuts on our head and hands. It was a true adventure!

Here is another example of how wonderful my mom is. I came to visit and told her I wanted to learn how to make doughnuts. So she got all of the stuff ready and we made all different kinds. Chocolate, cinnamon sugar, and powdered sugar! They turned out wonderful. Thanks mom for teaching me yet another skill!

Last weekend Heidi and Keaton were in town and we were able to go to lunch and then spend the afternoon together. After lunch we decided to head over to Bellevue Square and check out the brand new Children's play area. There was so much to climb on, Keaton had a blast. There are several large boats and a sand castle and all sorts of other things coing out of the "water." The ground is super bouncy so that even if kids fall from the top, they dont' get hurt.

After playing a around for a while, we headed over to Build a Bear. Keaton chose a puppy and named him Lukie. After she chose we took him over to begin bringing him to life.

She gave the heart a kiss so Lukie would always know how much she loved him.

To end Wesley's summer vacation, he came to visit Rob and I in Seattle. We tried to keep him busy by doing a few of the traditional Seattle tourists spots and he even got to help out with the big proposal plan that Rob had. Here are a few pics from our adventures.

Before eating dinner on Alki Beach, we stopped to enjoy the view of the Seattle Skyline.

Right by Rob's house there is a luxury car store. We took Wesley to show him around.

When we were packing the car to head up to Whistler for the weekend, Wes claimed his spot in the car before anyone else did....

On one of the warmer days, we took a trip to Golden Gardens Park to enjoy the beach.

And we took a trip to Snoqualmie Falls (although I couldn't convince him to hike down with me).

Over all we had a great time. Come and visit us soon so we can show you the sights!

Chaz is officially an United States Airman and I couldn't be prouder of him.

We were very lucky to be able to spend the last 3 days with him and be a part of this outstanding accomplishment. We are so glad that Kasey & her family, mom, dad, Misty & Mike were able to see him and be a part of this step in his life.

I have taken many many pictures and will post some of the events and the fun we had soon!!

This week, instead of going to daycare, Jayden is hanging out with me while Jackie goes to work. We've been busy. We're trying to take it all in before we head to Idaho next week. Here's a little of what we've done so far.

We went to the park close to my house to check out the toys there.

We went to Microsoft and had lunch with Rob.

We went to the Woodland Park zoo. The Hippos were our favorite part. There were three and they were chasing each other all around. We stayed and watched them for about 20 min.

Jayden loved petting the goats in the petting zoo.

We climbed trees.

We drove tractors.

We went to the aquarium.

And shook hands with an octopus!

Saw all different types of fish.

So far we've been having a great time.

We all love the 4th of July, but it's extra fun when we get to go to the Tomato Festival in Avery! =) Colton was not so patiently awaiting the lawn mower races...
Yep that's right - I said lawn mower races - where else can you find such an exciting event! They actually hit speeds of 45 - 50 mph! Colton was in heaven and has already made plans for papaw to fix up an old lawn mower so he can race next year (don't think his mom knows about this plan just yet) Although the temps were in the upper 90's we all had a great time!

We were lucky to share Misty's first Tomato Festival/lawn mower race experience with her!

Then it was time for some fun on the rides!

It couldn't get dark soon enough - we were all ready to set off fireworks! Yippee!!

Kylie picked out some lady bugs and was so excited to watch them go!

We even got papaw to have some sparkler fun! (he gets so excited sometimes - hehe)In the end we had a great 4th of July - and loved speding it together!

So you see... there is this poodle that is somewhat of a stray that has been living outside with some of our other dogs (trust me poodles are not made to live outside) anyway we have been feeling sorry for her and not sure what to do.... yesterday Misty decided that she would take her to the vet and schedule an appointment with the groomer... it is obvious that Prissy is very thankful =)

As aa matter of fact I think Misty not only has a big heart, but she has all of the dogs singing her praises - hehe

As a matter of fact - kids too!

Every year I look forward to celebrating the kids birthdays - since they are only 10 days apart we usually pick the best weekend and plan a party.......

So, it's the first day of my summer vacation and I have spent the day on the couch watching every Michael Jackson video ever made. I know most of you know how much I loved him as a musician and performer. I'm so sad that I will never have the chance to go to one of his concerts. A funny story... This year, in Interlake High Schools Yearbook, the picture of me is not the traditional head shot. Instead it is a picture of me holding the Thriller Album that is displayed in the corner of my classroom. The caption states, "Ms. Buhrmester's secret crime, She's in love with Michael Jackson!" If there is one tribute I can give to Michael Jackson, it is that a new generation of kids (my students) will all know what an amazing performer he is. They all already listen to him and tell me every time they add a new song of his to their ipods! :)

I just wanted to let Dad know how much I love and appreciate him. Being the father of 8, the grandfather of 16 and great grandfather of 6 is no easy feat. Here are just a few reasons why I love my Dad!

He has always been there for me when I needed him
He lets me play golf with him even though I am horrible
He encouraged me to become a teacher and get my masters degree
He encouraged me to serve a mission
He makes a mean potato-cheese soup
He loves Azteca more than I do
He loves good music
He worthily holds the priesthood
He gets up a 4 in the morning so he can work at the temple
He has a green thumb and grows his own delicious food
He always sacrificed and supported his family and made sure we had what we needed
He is an excellent example of having faith in our Heavenly Father

Biking in Whistler

Rob and I went to Whistler for our first Mountain Biking Trip of the year last weekend. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect weekend. The weather was bright and sunny, but not too hot. In fact, it was so nice, they decided to keep the bike park open until 8 pm! We had a full day of biking and we were exhausted when we were done.

We saw several bears. We haven't been up there in the summer yet without seeing bears. It is so cool to see them coming right toward the trails where you are biking.

This time we also saw some deer. Can you see him?

The Peak to Peak Gondola was open for summer and when we went on opening day it was totally fogged in. So midday we decided to go up the mountain and check it out on a sunny day. There was still a lot of snow left on the ground the further we went up.

Update on Kasey & Madelynn

As most of you know Kasey became very sick yesterday - she ended up going to the ER and was admitted for surgery today. All went well, Cecil & I just got home from Dallas and although she was in a high amount of pain from the surgery, she was doing very well and we are hoping will be home day after tomorrow. I will keep everyone posted.
As for Madelynn - Kasey was able to speak with Maddie's doctor this morning before her surgery - first of all I would like to say that a doctor should not be able to leave someone a message after hours on a Friday about their child and let the internet answer any questions they may have as they worry all weekend - scarey! I am still not sure about all the details, and Madelynn will still have to go to an specialist at Childrens but from what I understand her sugar was not a concern and although her tsh is high she is not in immediate danger - they need to see what steps should be taken to prevent problems down the road. We are all so grateful for your prayers - keep praying - we will let everyone know as soon as we know the facts.

Well Cecil and I have been anxiously awaiting the Tracy Lawrence concert. He does a homecoming show every year and we've gone to the last three. This years guests were Tracy Byrd (love him!) and Richie McDonald (formerly Lonestar lead singer). This year was extra special because it was his last, and we had 7th row seats! Yippee ~ couldn't get much better than that - right?

Well let me tell you.... Cecil called me from work last week and he had been notified that he won the backstage "Meet & Greet" with Tracy Lawrence. Yippee! Now we're talking extra special - couldn't get any better than that - right?

Well let's see maybe if when we got to the concert Cecil got to meet ALL of the performers!

Yep - & they all signed his hat too! It was the best concert I have ever been to! And I think it's safe to say it was the best Cecil's ever been to too! =)

A Prayer for Madelynn

Well today i took maddie in for a check up. I was a little concerned because she has been drinking a TON, she is constantly thirsty and then she urinates a ton. I change her diaper all the time. The second thing i was worried about was the fact that she is 21 months old and her soft spot has not closed up yet. Well the doctor said we really shouldnt worry but he was going to send her for a two hour glucose test and to test her tsh (thyroid). The doctor told me that i shouldnt worry and to just call on monday to get the results. Well around 4:20 i got a call but i didnt answer it because i didnt recognize the number. I recieved a voicemail so i listened to it and it was her doctor calling me about her thyroid results. He said they were high, he told me that on monday morning to bring her back into the doctor as soon as i could, he said that i should watch her over the weekend and if anything happens to take her to childrens hospital not any other hospital. Well of course this worried me. We looked online about high thyroid in children and the words that kept popping up was : cardiac problems, eye problems and respiratory problems. I pray that everything will be okay. I pray that if she does have to start medicine that there wont be any issues with her heart or anything. We dont have the results of her glucose test but i read something saying that diabetes is common in patients with thyroid problems. So I am asking everyone to keep madelynn in your prayers that this whole situation will turn out fine and there wont be any long term effects of this.

So on Friday, Rob jokingly emailed some of his friends asking if they wanted to go in with him on buying three 50 cc Honda dirtbikes. To our surprise, they did. So that evening we found ourselves making the drive out to Fall City to pick up these little guys.

We spent the day on Saturday at Gas Works park in Seattle. We brought the bikes along for a little fun.

What we've been up to.....

I have been telling myself that I was going to post a few pictures of some of the exciting things we've been able to do lately, but here we are a few weeks and adventures later - so I will summarize them for you! ;-)

First... Cecil, Chaz & I went to an airshow at Barksdale AFB - I have always loved watching the planes, big or small, perform the exciting tricks:

Then Cecil & I had awesome seats at Kenny Chesney's concert in Shreveport - this is how he made his grand entrance - right next to US!!

& then.... this past weekend we got the chance to visit with Skye, Blayne & little Chloe - they are growing up so fast - we had a lot of fun. I am now officially "granny" (Skye decided I needed a name different than everyone else)! also notice Skye & Chloe's matching outfits? Oh yeah - if they can't match they don't get dressed!

& then... well we didn't get to see Kasey & the kids, but I just love them so much and am so proud to be their "mamaw" well I just had to include these adorable pictures!

A Day at the Park

Jayden and I went to Grasslawn Park in Redmond today. It quite possibly has the coolest playground equipment I have ever seen. We had a blast. We played for two hours, went and had lunch and returned to play some more. Here are some photos and videos of our fun.

This video show Jayden's favorite thing to do. He would walk across the rope bridge, go down, and then climb up to the HUGE blue slide. It was a little scary but I think I was more scared then Jayden was. After one time of going up he had it down to a science.

Jayden on his way up to the top of the big slide. I thought this park was amazing because of all the cool toys and because it made the kids stop and really think about how they were going to do something and then they would have to decide if they were actually brave enough to do it.

The swings had really long chains that allowed me to push him really high. He loved it!

The coolest merry-go-round ever. Jayden kept getting braver and braver (don't worry we weren't pushing it very fast!)

Rob met us at the park and joing Jayden and I for lunch. Jayden was very impressed with the motorcycle helmet, he just had to try it on for size!

It was a great day. We both had a wonderful time and the weather was beautiful. I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday. :)

AF Graduation information

When Cecil checked the mail and found an envelop from Chaz we were excited to get our first letter - turns out there was no letter :-( but there was some important information.... One thing his dorm is B-3 not A-3 as I previously listed. I have been assured that all letters sent to the A dorm will still make it to him.

Second - we received our base visitors pass for July 9th - 12th - it says this will get everyone in our party on base on the appropriate dates.

The third bit of information (and most interesting) was a brochure for AF Family & Friends - apparently there are discount rates available for those traveling to graduation at Lackland. It gave a website for more information and a phone # to call for reservations - I have listed them both below. The discounts apply to airlines, rental cars & hotels. (PS I have reserved 3 double rooms at the La Quinta which is right by the base this should accomodate 12 - I listed them as Cecil Johnson, Glenn Buhrmester & Julie Rivers but we can make adjustments as necessary I will e-mail confirmation information).

Just when I thought I was going to have to have my phone surgically attached I was so worried that I would miss Chaz's one and only call - I received an e-mail last night from the base missionaries. They were able to spend time with Chaz yesterday during church and he ask them to send me his address. Aparently the "flights" have to earn the privledge of a phone call and letter writting and may not be able to do either for a couple of weeks. They can however receive letters and family & friends are encouraged to write often letters of support and encouragement. I of course mailed my first letter this morning, and hope that everyone will write him as often as possible. I figure with such a large family he will hopefully never go a day without receiving something.

I just wanted to let everyone know that Chaz is off on his adventure with the US Air Force -

I am so very proud of him!!

I spoke to him earlier and he is on his way to San Antonio where he should arrive around 8:30 tonight.

Although his leaving yesterday was a little emotional, he sounded great today and really excited. There were 5 other guys heading out with him, one of them he had classes with in college.

I should get a quick call from him toward the end of the week letting me know he's there, ok and giving me his address; then we won't be able to talk to him until his graduation in July. I will post his address here as soon as I get it and hope that everyone will write him as often as possible.

So on Easter Sunday, Sherri, the girls and I went to see Wicked! I had seen it before in London, and of course I fell in love! So I had to go again.

We all had a really good time, except for the fact we seriously had the noseblood seats and the people in front of Sarah and I were somewhat of a pain. Next time I go to see a Broadway play.... I pay the BIG bucks!!!

Joyce and Michael came to Utah and Rexburg

We had a family get together and Michael finally got to meet everyone. We did a tour of Temple Square and the Conference Center, then went to Rexburg.

We of course took them to Craigo's Pizza but forgot the camera. The next day we went to tour Idaho Falls and see the falls.

No trip is complete without a visit to BIG JUD's

That evening we were so stuffed that we decided instead of dinner we would do a DESSERT TOUR OF REXBURG, first stop Frontier Pies

Then to Florence's Chocolate for a taste of the delicious chocolate candy. She was closing when we got there but because we had out of town guests she let us in.

Next a taste of chocolate & vanilla custard from BRC's Frozen Custard, this is owned by Florence's Chocolate.
